About Me

London, United Kingdom
Greetings, Thank you for stopping by my little space on the World Wide Web. My blog is intended to be a friendly, informative space where you can pick up tips and tricks. I am Dani and 25 years old. Just like most other twenty somethings I thought I had a life plan after university and planned to take my Broadcast Journalism degree to the city. However, things do not happen like that as in my final year I learned I was pregnant and would be facing it alone. My blog covers the ups and downs without sugar coating (although i do love sugar). Finishing a degree and starting a master with a two month old baby was hard and I intend to cover all aspects of the unexpectedness and unconventional start of my family. I am in a place where I could not be happier with my family; Jack, Alexander and baby bear in my tummy. I will concentrate on my pregnancy, getting back in shape, diet and exercise and pulling it all together with no sleep. Alongside, I also plan to share my personal wedding planning journey. . Having worked as an Event manager I am thrilled to be organising my own wedding. I plan to do most of it myself and will talk you through DIY tips and tricks.

Pregnancy Skincare

Greetings!

My skin does not agree with the pregnancy hormones. I am still waiting for the 'pregnancy glow' that everyone talks about. In fact I get angry under-the-skin cystic acne. Being pregnant means I have stopped using my retinol serum which usually helps my skin. Here are the products I have found useful in managing pregnancy acne.

Morning:
Cetaphil gentle cleanser Buy Here
Sudocream
Superdrug Vitamin E Daily Moisturiser with SPF
Superdrug Vitamin E oil (also used for facial massage) Buy Here

Foreo Lumea - for application Buy Here

Weekly

Every three days I will give myself a facial massage

Once a week I will give myself an at-home-facial. This consists of a exfoliation, face mask, steam, nose strip and some light extraction.

I also found microdermabrasion to be amazing for my skin. It literally decongested me completely. The only thing I would say is do not pay over £20 as essentially it is a hoover (pretty sure you could make one at home).

Pram Reviews - Pram with charging dock, small enough to take as hand luggage and so on

Buying a pram can be so overwhelming. There are so many choices and varieties out there. There are options for whole travel systems; including car seat, flat cot and stroller or just stroller. Some people like to get a pram and then stroller and others like on suitable from birth all the way through.

When a baby is born it is important they lie flat. This is because their backs are not formed yet. When choosing a pram it will usually tell you if it is suitable from birth.

Having had the Petite Sta Charisma last time I was pretty happy with it. I never used the car seat in the pram but did get use out of the flat cot and pram. It has rubber wheels meant for running - which is great for the country side but also prone to punctures.

This time round I know a lot more about what I am after. Below is my specification:

- Carry Cot
- Pram
- If rubber wheels have a detachable option.
- Drinks holder (so useful)
-Something not too heavy or bulky when folded
- Not too low if possible. Loads of the prams out there seem to be very low to the ground.

Reviews are below:

Most Expensive

Icandy - For the Yummy Mummy's

The Icandy is the creme de la creme of prams. All the yummy mummy seem to have one. They come with a heft price tag- nearly £800 plus £150 for carry cot. Click here to view. They have no puncture tyres and are fluid in movement and manoeuvring. They easily go from single to double strollers and come in a variety of models colours and shades.  Great all rounder for all terrain.

The downsides are the price and they scratch easily and the price.

Bugaboo Cameleon Classic Pushchair

The Bugaboo is said to also be an all terrain pushchair although reviewers say that it is most suited to street. It has a height adjustable handle bar. This price comes in at nearly £900 for carry cot and pushchair (on par with icandy). The pushchair is said to be lightweight, well made and manoeuvrable.

The downsides are the price and the brakes which can be improved. Mothers also find some difficulty on small streets.

4Moms Orgami- For the gadget geek - technology stroller you can charge your phone from.

The 4moms stroller is super high tech. It is the first power folding pushchair and hosts a usb charging dock (powered from self charging wheels), temperature, lights and speedometers/tripomoters. This stroller holds four drinks and I totally love it. It is very easy to push

It comes in at £800 for stroller and carry cot. It is both forward and rear facing. Click here for more info and to buy

The downsides are that is it expensive and heavy. Although it self folds this may not be suitable for mums who are not strong and have to lift the stroller in and our of cars/transport. The front wheels do not lock so it is also not suitable for all terrain.

Midrange

BabyZen Yoyo Stroller- So small and compact it can fit in hand luggage

This pushchair can be used from birth as well. The main selling point it it is so small and compact it can fit into hand luggage- perfect for small boots and ease as one handed fold.  This is also perfect for the city and public transport. The Yoyo can be both forward or rear facing too and is compatible with main brand car seats. The price comes in at £485 for carry cot and stroller.

The main downsides is that there is a small shopping basket and the brake sometimes catches. This also may not be suitable for those wanting to go all terrain and living in the country.

Mama and Papas Armadilo Flip Pushchair and Carry Cot

This travel system comes with a travel cup, carry cot, adapters and stroller. The best thing about this stroller is how versatile it is- baby can face you, easy fold and manageable. There is also a toddler handle attachment. It comes in at £599 and can be bought at very.co.uk.

Downsides- Perhaps not suited to all terrain and more of a city stroller.

Uppababy Vista- Great for extending families and adding double strollers.

The selling point of this system is that not only can you get the stroller and carry cot but there is also options to convert it into a double stroller with a simple adapter. This would be great for those with twins, or two babies under two. It comes in at £699.95 and can be bought from John Lewis. Reviewers comment on the ease of assembly/fold,

The downside is like any double pushchair it can be bulky. The manoeuvrability can also be a bit hard at times.

Budget Friendly

Joie Travel System-

3 in 1- stroller, carry cot and car seat pushchair. Makes moving babies easy and gives both forward and rear facing options. Retails for £399.95 and can be purchased here. Can also get a toddler board attachment for this buggy.

Downsides- although can fold down to be very compact it is very heavy for a single person to manage particularly on public transport. Ride is sometimes not smooth

Hauck Malibu Travel System

Another good cheaper system range with carseat. Easy to fold and small enough for small cars. Both forward and backwards facing Can be purchased here or here for Hauk Lacrosse. Both varieties between £300-350 for everthing.

Downsides- Mother complain that some parts are compromised on quality such as footrest is flimsy. The handle bar also does not adjust to different heights.

UberChild Evo 3 in 1

Another cheaper travel system on the market. Comes in a variety of colours and patterns. Lightweight and sturdy forward and rear facing. Folds down small, can buy more air filled wheels and can be bought here http://uberchild.com/uberchild-evo.html on a special discount of £239.99.

I hope that has been useful. Out of these prams there are so many I love. Just have to decide which one to go for.

Please let me know your thoughts if you have any of the above.

28 Week Update

28 Week Update

28 Weeks means just 12 left :) It is getting real now.

Here is my latest update:

Work:
Been working on a consultancy piece which was so interesting. I love projects and exercising my mind. Been watching tutorials of Adobe Premiere as fully trained in Avid and FinalCutPro thought I would add it to my skill set. Watch out for videos coming soon.

Cravings:
Ice, ice baby. Yes that is right I crave and eat ice all day. Luckily it is a cheap craving. People laugh and tell me I have a 'skinny girl' craving. I do also love sweets though.

Mood and health:
Mood is positive. However I have had a wisdom tooth break through which is painful. I feel like one big growing hub. The worst thing I have been experiencing is painful leg cramps all night. Ouch- I jump out of bed to stretch out- not fun.

Appointments:
I had my 28 week appointment yesterday. Same as normal (listening to heart, measuring the bump and blood pressure) although she took blood on this one.

Things to do:

I still have not got anything I need yet. Been looking at prams though and will do a review of my findings in the next post.

That's all for today. Short and Sweet.

Baby Girl Shopping + What I Need Second Time Around

Hey all you lovely people,

I have been doing some shopping lately for my baby girl. It has made me so excited to have a girl and do joint shopping trips with her. I hope to go to the spa and nails and shopping when she is older :).

She will be born in November which is mid winter. I have been buying round the season, especially in the BHS closing down sale and Mothercare sale.

What I Still Need?

Unfortunately I still need a lot. My pram and travel system got left by a leaking washing machine and is completely mouldy. I need a baby monitor, feeding gliding chair, electric pump and changing dresser.

What does everyone else need to buy? Anyone have any really good suggestions for baby bits especially a pram. I am looking for one thats not too bulky or heavy.

24 Week Pregnancy Update and Alexanders 4th birthday

Hello everybody,

I have just hit 24 weeks! Here's whats new:

Appointments: I had a midwife check up which included the standard; urine sample, blood pressure, listening to bubba's heart, going through symptoms and concerns. Of course, my little girl couldn't keep still for the doppler and kept pushing the midwife off. Honestly, she is so super active - all day long. I don't know how she has that much energy. She has started kicking up into my lungs and I literally have to massage her out. What a diva! Maybe i should just call her Divanna!

Heath and Mental state: Unfortunately I have had migraines for the last week. Apparently it is quite normal. All I can take is paracetemol and gel sheets. They are so painful and make me feel really nauseous. Does anyone have any tricks? I feel so bad when I have one i just want to close my eyes which leaves poor Alexander really bored.

My mental state is good :). I am getting very excited now as getting closer. Until i had Alexander I didn't know it but all I have ever wanted is to have a family and feel so many different kinds of complete. Admittedly, it all happened a bit earlier than expected however I would not change that for the world as never felt so happy and that feeling that 'wow this is what life is about, this is my calling, my destiny, my happiness".

Cravings: I have always been one for smells- I cannot explain it but certain smells are so addictive for me such as:

the inside of a TR7, petrol,  smell of fresh washing and tumble drying, new car, the smell of rain, smell of spas, smell of steam, smell of heating, smell of air-con, tennis balls etc.

Well guess what- I get smell cravings. My pregnancy smell craving is once again the smell of hoovering. I can't explain it but i find it so pleasant and addictive. I have two vacuum cleaners are i enjoy the smell of both of them. It is totally weird although gets my hoovering about 3 times a day. My OCD nesting had returned as well - if i see any dirt I feel the need to go over the whole room again.

My other smell craving is the smell of heat in the car. I love getting into a hot car for that reason. I know its probably really bad for you. I am also loving the smell of the washing when it gets out of tumble drying. I literally walk round sniffing my clean towels and flannels. I think everyone had probably booked me a place at the mental institute at this rate.

Other things to note:

Alexander turned four! Yes a whole four years old. We celebrated by having a pirate party. and totally had treasure to find, party bags, pass the parcel, kids food, fun musical games. Seriously kids have the right idea of how to party.

I got him an apple tree to plant as he has been going on about planting one all year. I also got him a cool smiggle pop out pencil case and some games. He got tonnes of presents from everyone - all of which needs storing.

Here are some pictures of my home cooking and party planning.

Please let me know what party themes are ideas you would have done for four year olds.

Bridesmaid Proposal

Get ready.. for my first wedding related post.

The post is a DIY bridesmaid proposal box idea. I wanted to get these boxes out to my bridesmaids as soon as possible so we could have proper wedding planning sessions. We are just in the process of securing our venue too. Can't believe it is a whole year away though. I am sure the time will fly.

Here is for the boxes

I got the boxes from my local hobbycraft click here

I then painted the boxes (with three coats) of acrylic paint. I chose a pearly pink for the box and gold for the top. I then lined the inside with pink and gold tissue people and shredded pink tissue on top.

Sourcing what was going inside was the hardest part. Here is what I put in

- A bottle of prosecco each for morning of wedding
- Matching PJ shorts to wear for wedding planning sessions and sleepovers
- Pink bath salts
- A ballon filled with confetti and a message
- Popcorn with "he popped the question now its my turn". Attached to the popcorn was an envelope with a bracelet saying "will you be my bridesmaid".
- Jelly beans
- A card with a message about what the person means to me and how much I want them by my on my wedding day.

What did you do for your bridesmaid proposals?
